Banana Dogs, A Kid-Friendly Recipe*

Recipe List
A Jessica Siegel & Kid-Friendly Recipe
Serves 1 or many

ow this is a meatless "hot dog!" Kids will be excited about making this for a nutritious vegetarian meal and they'll love the taste. Almond butter has no salt or sugar added and it tastes different from peanut butter, but in a good way. Remember that when children are involved in making their own food, they're more likely to eat it, so let kids make this on their own and they will be open to all the new healthful ingredients.

You will need:

 ♦  A plate  ♦  A regular spoon  ♦  A tablespoon  ♦  A teaspoon  ♦  A drinking glass
    Ingredients:
  • Cottage Hearth honeywheat hot dog buns
  • Ripe organic bananas
  • Kettle almond butter
  • Melissa's organic dried cranberries
  • Melissa's organic dried blueberries
  • Horizon Organic fat free milk
    Instructions:
  1. Put a hot dog bun on the plate. Use your fingers to carefully open it without breaking the bun apart.

  2. Peel a banana all the way without breaking it. It's okay if you do break it, though. Put the banana in the hot dog bun, like you would if it was a hot dog.

  3. Open the jar of almond butter. Use a regular spoon to stir it up and mix the oil in with the almond butter and get the lumps out. It might take a few minutes to mix it all together.

  4. When the almond butter is mixed, use the tablespoon measuring spoon to scoop 2 tablespoons of it onto the banana and inside the bun. Try not to let any almond butter run down the outside of the bun.

  5. Use the teaspoon measuring spoon to scoop 1 teaspoon of the dried cranberries. Shake the spoon over the banana dog to scatter the cranberries on top.

  6. Use the teaspoon measuring spoon to scoop 1 teaspoon of the dried blueberries. Shake the spoon over the banana dog to scatter the blueberries on top.

  7. Open the carton of milk and pour yourself a glass of milk to go with your banana dog.

  8. Eat the banana dog right away. Wash it down with some milk.
