Choco-Cinnamon Popcorn, A Kid-Friendly Recipe*

Recipe List
A Jessica Siegel & Kid-Friendly Recipe
Serves 2 or many

ho doesn't love to snack on popcorn? This fun recipe is subtly seasoned with antioxidant-rich cocoa powder and cinnamon. The microwave cooking method I use is great because pretty much all of the kernels pop, but be careful since the bowl gets very hot.

You will need:

Measuring spoons  ♦  A large microwave-safe bowl  ♦  A spoon  ♦  Measuring cups  ♦  Plastic wrap  ♦
A pointed knife  ♦  A microwave  ♦  Oven mitts

    Ingredients:
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon Scharffen Berger cocoa powder
    2 teaspoons sugar
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons canola oil
1/4 cup Jolly Time yellow popcorn kernels

    Instructions:
  1. Use your measuring teaspoon to measure 1 teaspoon of cinnamon into the big glass bowl. Measure 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder into the bowl. Measure 2 teaspoons of sugar into the bowl. Measure 8 teaspoon or just a pinch of salt into the bowl. Carefully measure out 2 teaspoons of canola oil into the bowl.

  2. Use a spoon to mix everything together until it looks like melted chocolate.

  3. Use your 1/4-cup measuring cup to measure the popcorn kernels into the bowl. Use your spoon to mix everything together.

  4. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Make sure that the whole opening of the bowl is covered and that the plastic wrap is not saggy or loose over the top.

  5. Use the pointed knife to carefully poke 5 small holes in the plastic wrap.

  6. Place the bowl in the microwave and set the timer on high for 6 minutes. After about 3 minutes start to listen for popping sounds. They'll get fast and then start to slow down. When you can count to 4 in between pops, turn off the microwave.

  7. Use your oven mitts to take the bowl out of the microwave and place it on a clean, dry surface. Keep your mitts on when you take the plastic off or just use the pointed knife to cut an opening in the plastic. Eat your popcorn within a day.
