Chocolate Milk, a Kid-Friendly Recipe *
Chocolate milk is a fantastic beverage for active kids since it tastes great and has the electrolytes, protein, and carbohydrates necessary to refuel tired muscles, not to mention calcium and vitamin D for growing bones. This version is good because I use nonfat organic milk, the highest quality chocolate for an antioxidant boost, and no texturizers or other additives. This is an easy snack that kids can make themselves and, as new research shows, it works just as well as Gatorade for helping our bodies recover after strenuous exercise. - Jessica Siegel, Registered Dietitian You will need:a small spoon ♦ a glass measuring cup

– Break one triangle off of the chocolate bar (or just half of the diamond) and break it into smaller pieces into the mug. – Measure out 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar and pour it into the mug. – Measure out 1/2 teaspoon of cocoa powder and pour it into the mug. – Measure out 1 tablespoon of milk and pour it into the mug. – Place the mug in the microwave and microwave on high for 15 seconds. Stir the chocolate mixture very well with a spoon, trying to break up the chocolate chunks. – Put the mug back in and microwave on high for 15 more seconds. Be careful that the handle of the mug is not too hot this time. Stir the mixture very well until it is smooth. – Measure out 7 ounces (just under 1 cup) of milk into the glass measuring cup and pour it into the mug. Mix everything very well until it looks like all the chocolate is dissolved. Drink it now or put it in the refrigerator for later. |
