make this quick, filling and delicious recipe almost every weekday morning. It is an excellent alternative to cold cereal or even granola and a good alternative to steel-cut oats. I cook the oats in milk for necessary protein and sprinkle on some almonds for a satisfying dose of healthful fat. It is important for our health to cut back on added sugars in foods and to train our tongues to enjoy less sweet flavors. I find that the milk, cinnamon and strawberries give the oatmeal enough sweetness that it is not necessary to add any sweetener.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup Organic Valley organic nonfat milk, divided
- 1 packet Quaker organic regular instant oatmeal
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon Flanigan Farms slivered almonds
- 2 organic strawberries, diced
Instructions:
Heat ¼-cup milk in a glass or ceramic cereal bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir in oatmeal packet and another ¼ cup of milk. Heat for 30-60 more seconds, until milk is mostly absorbed by oatmeal. Remove from microwave and stir in cinnamon and remaining 1/4cup of milk. Top with almonds and strawberries.
