shingles vaccine

According to the CDC, almost 1 out of every 3 people in the United States will develop shingles in their lifetime. Anyone who has recovered from chickenpox may develop shingles; even children can get shingles. However, the risk of shingles increases as you get older.

Shingles vaccination is the only way to protect against shingles.

We are excited to announce that your local Gelson's Pharmacy has Shingles vaccines available now. Shingrix is a new vaccine offering better protection against Shingles than the previous vaccine Zostavax.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • The Shingrix vaccine is approved by the FDA and recommended by the CDC for use in people 50 and over as a two dose regimen.
  • People who were previously vaccinated with Zostavaxshould be vaccinated again with Shingrix.
  • By age 80, it is estimated that 1 in 3 people will suffer a Shingles outbreak if unvaccinated.
  • Significantly more effective than previously available vaccines – shown to be extremely effective in controlled studies.

People who have had Shingles should also receive Shingrix. Talk with our pharmacist to find out if Shingrix is recommended for you.
