Steamed Oat Milk 4 Ways

Oat milk and warm spices make a dreamy combination — the spices boost the flavor of the oat milk and the mellow oats make an ideal backdrop for the earthy, elegant spices. It tastes warm and wonderful on its own, and it makes a great base for more complex beverages. Here’s a recipe for Basic Spiced Oat Milk and three drinks that use it as a base. Each one deserves a spot on your mug-based menu.


Basic Spiced Oat Milk

Serves: 4

Ingredients

4 cups unsweetened oat milk
6 crushed cardamom pods
3 cinnamon sticks
1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the oat milk, cardamom and cinnamon sticks. Scrape vanilla seeds into the mixture. Heat over low heat until steaming, making sure to not let the milk simmer. Cook for 10 minutes.

  2. Remove the pot from the heat and let cool to room temperature, 15 minutes.

  3. Strain the oat milk into a bottle with an airtight lid and refrigerate. The spiced oat milk will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.


Spiced Chocolate Oat Milk

Serves: 1

Ingredients

1 cup basic spiced oat milk
1 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
⅛ tsp Gelson’s chili powder
⅛ tsp Gelson’s cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the spiced oat milk, chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, chili powder, and cayenne pepper. Heat over low heat and whisk until the chocolate is melted and fully combined, about 3 minutes.

  2. Pour into an airtight container, and chill in the fridge for 3 hours. Enjoy!


Spiced Oat Milk Chai

Serves: 1

Ingredients

4 oz cold brewed chai
1 oz simple syrup
Basic spiced oat milk, for topping

Directions

  1. In a mug add the chai tea and simple syrup. Stir to combine.

  2. Add ice and top with the spiced oat milk.


Spiced Oat Milk White Russian

Serves: 1

Ingredients

1 ½ oz vodka
1 ½ oz coffee liqueur
3 oz basic spiced oat milk
1 cinnamon stick, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a rocks glass filled with ice, add the vodka and coffee liqueur.

  2. Top with the spiced oat milk and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
