Witches’ Brew Cocktail

We’re always on the lookout for holiday-themed cocktails that are ready to party, but not overly kitschy. Enter: Halloween’s elegant, deeply mysterious (and oh, so quaffable) Witches’ Brew Cocktail.

In this delightfully spooky spin on a Bee’s Knees, Hendrick’s gin is infused with blueberry lavender tea, which brings out its rosy notes and gives it a deep, potion-y purple hue. Honey simple syrup plays up the tea’s fruity side, and fresh lemon juice adds brightness, like a sliver of light in a dark room.

It’s all shaken together with an egg white, creating a foamy, frothy layer that separates to the top, like steam rising out of a cauldron. Finish with a few drops of Angostura bitters and give it a swirl to release the aromas of cinnamon and cloves.

Fun fact: Republic of Tea’s Daily Beauty Iced Tea comes with instructions to “Sip, refresh and nourish your skin from the inside out. This hydrating, violet-hued herbal iced tea contains a proprietary blend of botanicals that your skin will love.”

If that isn’t a sign from beyond, we don't know what is. Invite your closest friends for a spectral soiree, put on your most glam Halloween getup, and raise your glass to eternal youth … if you dare.

Witches’ Brew Cocktail

Serves: 1

Ingredients

For the purple gin:

2 oz Hendrick’s gin
4 Republic of Tea Blueberry Lavender Daily Beauty ice tea bags

For the honey simple syrup:

¼ cup hot water
¼ cup honey

For the cocktail:

2 oz purple gin
¾ oz honey simple syrup
¾ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 egg white
Ice
3 drops Angostura bitters

Directions

  1. To make the purple gin: In a small Mason jar, combine the gin and tea bags. Seal the jar and shake until the gin turns dark purple, 10 seconds. Remove the tea bags from the gin, pressing out the excess alcohol. Discard the tea bags.

  2. To make the honey simple syrup: In another Mason jar, combine the hot water and honey. Shake to dissolve the honey.

  3. To make one cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, combine the purple gin, honey simple syrup, lemon juice, and egg white. Shake vigorously for 1 minute.

  4. Add the ice to the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 1 minute.

  5. Strain the cocktail into a coupe glass, and let rest for 1 minute to allow the foam to rise to the top. Drop the bitters onto the foam to garnish. Serve immediately.
