This year, Gelson's proudly welcomed The Tasting Panel magazine to our West Los Angeles location for a special speed tasting event that brought together some of Southern California's top wine buyers, sommeliers, restaurateurs, and industry experts.

Hosted in the store's wine bar, the tasting featured nine wines and one spirit, paired with fresh sushi, sandwiches, salads, steak, and desserts prepared by Gelson's catering team. The event also served as a celebration of Gelson's 75th Anniversary, honoring a legacy that began when brothers Eugene and Bernie Gelson opened their first store in Burbank in 1951.

An Elevated Setting for Wine Discovery

Known for offering an upscale shopping experience, Gelson's West Los Angeles provided an ideal venue for blind tastings, wine education, and industry conversation. Attendees sampled a curated lineup of wines from California, Burgundy, Washington, and beyond while hearing directly from winemakers and brand representatives about the stories behind each bottle

Spotlight on the Gelson's Appellation Series

One of the event's highlights was the presentation of Gelson's 2023 Crystal Springs Appellation Series Cabernet Sauvignon, developed in collaboration with acclaimed consulting winemaker Julien Fayard. During the tasting, guests explored the newly established Crystal Springs AVA in Napa Valley and learned how its unique terroir shapes the wine's character.

The Cabernet impressed attendees with its balance, structure, and sense of place, demonstrating Gelson's commitment to bringing exceptional, premium wines to customers at an outstanding value.

The tasting lineup included renowned producers from California and beyond, showcasing a range of styles and regions, from Burgundy Chardonnay and Anderson Valley Pinot Noir to Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Washington State reds. Throughout the event, guests exchanged tasting notes, discussed winemaking philosophies, and explored emerging trends shaping the wine industry.
